MCS Mechatronic has built drop weight tear testers in Kolhapur, India, since 1999, and supplies PLC-controlled DWTT machines to line-pipe mills, plate producers and pipeline testing labs in Nigeria. The DWTT shows whether pipeline steel fractures in a ductile or brittle way at a given temperature, a key acceptance test for gas and oil pipelines.
Nigeria's steel rolling mills, construction boom and oil and gas sector have made material testing a growing priority. SON has stepped up checks on reinforcement bars and building materials, and universities, polytechnics and private labs across Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt are upgrading their testing equipment. Every major pipeline project specifies DWTT results, which makes the test essential for pipe and plate suppliers.
Three automatic models with hydraulic shock absorbers cover standard and heavy-wall pipe.

Our machines are used by steel rolling mills, oil and gas service companies, construction and cement producers, building material labs, universities and polytechnics. Typical Nigerian applications include:
DWTT on API 5L pipe for gas and oil pipelines
Fracture behaviour of pipeline-grade plate and strip
Material qualification for new transmission lines
Independent DWTT for pipe buyers
Low-temperature fracture research
Ductile-to-brittle transition studies with chilled specimens
MCS DWTT machines test specimens to ASTM E436, API RP 5L3, ASTM E208 and DIN EN 10274, the methods specified for line pipe and pipeline steel.
In Nigeria, product conformity is overseen by SON (Standards Organisation of Nigeria), and laboratories that issue accredited reports work under NiNAS (Nigeria National Accreditation Service). The touch-screen panel shows drop height, energy and speed for every test, which can be recorded on your test certificates.
We supply drop weight tear testing machines to industrial cities and project sites across Nigeria, including:
Machines are packed in seaworthy export cases and shipped from India to Apapa Port, Lagos, Tin Can Island Port, Lagos and Onne Port, Rivers State.
Commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin and the machine's calibration certificate are supplied with every shipment.
Online operator training on the machine and its software, with remote technical support from our team in India.
Yes. MCS Mechatronic manufactures PLC-controlled DWTT machines in Kolhapur, India, and exports them to Nigeria through ports such as Apapa Port, Lagos and Tin Can Island Port, Lagos.
It tests specimens according to ASTM E436, API RP 5L3, ASTM E208 and DIN EN 10274.
Automatic PLC-controlled models are offered at 30,000 J, 55,000 J and 80,000 J. The right capacity depends on your pipe wall thickness and grade.
Yes. A deep freezer that cools specimens down to -80 °C and a hydraulic notch-making press are available as optional auxiliary equipment.
Imports into Nigeria go through the SONCAP conformity programme, which is handled by the importer. MCS DWTT machines test to ASTM E436, API RP 5L3, ASTM E208 and DIN EN 10274, and the drop height, energy and speed of each test can be recorded for your SON or client records. We supply the technical datasheets and documents needed for the SONCAP process.
The supply voltage depends on the model. Nigeria's three-phase supply is 415 V at 50 Hz, so please mention your site voltage and frequency in your enquiry so we can confirm the right electrical configuration.
Tell us the pipe grades, wall thickness and test temperatures, and we will recommend the right DWTT model.
